 The easiest way how to get on Skalnate pleso is by the cable railway from Tatranska Lomnica. By walk it tooks circa 2,5 hours but it's easy. It's available to hike with a small childerns.
There are two starting points – from Grandhotel where is a green marked foot-path or from the cable railway station where is a blue marked foot-path. This one is better. It's possible to walk on the asphalt route through the forest to the cable railway station called "Start". It tooks about 45 minutes or less.
There from are two ways: the circle around Mala Svistovka which is interesting but long (tooks 3 hours) or the foot-path which going under the cables. It's grass and rock basis path. At the end it's a little bit steeply.
 You will walk around the ski resort Cucoriedky. There from is a beatutiful view on the Poprad hollow. After 1,5 hour you will stand on the Skalnate pleso in 1751m asl.
 Way back to Tatranska Lomnica tooks around 1,5 hour. But very interesting is a circle through the Tatra's magistrala. This is the main hiking foot-path from the western Tatras to the eastern part. It's marked red. Immediately under the cable railway station at Skalnate pleso is Skalnata chata (Skalnata challet). Quality of the path is good. It's permanetly going down so you will move fastly.
After 50 minutes by walk you will reach a point called Lomnicka vyhliadka (Lomnica view). There is an outstanding view on Slavkovsky stit (Slavkovsky peak). The path is turning right. After 15 minutes you will reach Zamkovskeho chata (Zamkovsky's challet) at 1475m asl.
 Going down the red marked route around the Obrovsky vodopad (Obrvsky waterfall) to the Starolensianska polana (Starolesnianska grassfield) you could visit Rainerova chata (Rainer's challet). If you will be tired finish the hike with a funicular train from Hrebienok to Stary Smokovec.
But if you have enough energy don't miss Studenovodske vodopady (Studenovodsky waterfalls). The foot-path is marked yellow.
From the Rainer's challet it tooks around 15 minutes. Walk along the creek through the forest. After one 1,25 hour is the forest path ending in Tatranska Lesna. To Tatranska Lomnica is next 30 minutes by walk. If don't like it, wait for an electric train.
